Expats…Now Make UPI Payments Using International Numbers; know how
Here is a good news for Indians living in foreign countries. Now non-resident Indians can make UPI payments in India using their international mobile numbers. Payments can now be made through NRE or NRO bank accounts without a local Indian SIM card. Expats will now be able to send money using platforms like the Paytm app, shop on Indian platforms without currency conversions or international payment gateways, pay merchants through QR codes, and pay merchants like everyone else, just like making payments using the regular UPI app.
UPI for non-residents as well
UPI service provider Paytm has introduced the facility to make UPI transactions using an international mobile number. The new UPI payment system will be available to Indian expatriates currently living in around 12 countries including Singapore, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Oman, Qatar, USA, Saudi Arabia, UAE, UK, France and Malaysia. This service is authorized by National Payments Corporation of India.
How to use UPI services with international number?
To get UPI payment facility for non-residents you must have your international number linked with your bank account. To avail the new service, expats will have to download UPI apps like Paytm, log in with their international mobile number and complete verification via SMS. After linking your NRE or NRO bank accounts you can easily make UPI payments in India using this facility.
