Google has introduced three features that secure the information on the phone in case someone steals the Android phones. These are Theft Detection Lock, Offline Device Lock and Remote Lock. Theft detection lock is a system that automatically locks the phone without allowing the thief to access the information on the phone. The machine learning system recognizes that the phone is stolen when someone grabs the phone from the owner’s hand and runs, walks or drives away. The offline device lock will be activated if the phone is disconnected from the internet connection for a long period of time. The remote lock feature allows the owner to lock their phone by logging into the Find My Device system.
These features were first introduced to Android smartphones in the US. The theft detection lock appeared on the latest Xiaomi 14T Pro was first reported by Mishal Rahman via Threads. Google has been testing these features in beta versions since August. All three features will roll out to more Android phones in the coming weeks.
